So I am hoping to read more. I am trying to set a reasonable and doable goal for myself as far as reading goes.
I hope to read at least a chapter a day of the present book I am reading. I'm going to try to have new books on my kindle available so I don't spend my reading time searching for books to read. I think I can do that. Obviously there will be some nights I don't read, but maybe the next day I can read 2 or more chapters... I enjoy reading and would like to do it more often.
Right now I am finishing "The Sometimes Sisters". It is a good book that I am enjoying. I read for enjoyment and don't read a lot of serious books. But I do enjoy reading.
I read almost exclusively fiction for entertainment too. I do read an occasional non-fiction book about history or something, but I can't get into self-help stuff.
I don't set a goal because I don't want to make it like work, or feel like I have to get through x number of pages per day or something. I've surpassed 2016 reading totals though, which was by far the largest year of my life with 140 books read, 56,000 pages. I have a month to go so I can take it slow if I want, I've set the bar kind of high and I'm reading about 5 hours a day average I think. That 'no goal' plan is working out well I think...
I'm not putting pressure on myself to get this goal done. I think it's a reasonable goal for me and a relaxed goal. It just helps me to focus on what is important to me. Reading is pleasurable for me and I would like to do it more. Instead of being on social media or watching TV I will try to read. I know some days it won't happen and that is okay. If I have time and can concentrate then I will read a little.
I finished Sometimes Sisters last night and will start a new one soon. I think the one I chose to start is called "Sea of Memories".
I started reading Sea of Memories on Saturday. IT seems pretty good. So far it's about a grandmother and her granddaughter who hasn't gone to see her much in her nursing home. (the granddaughter is an adult). The grandmother begs the grand daughter to transcribe her memories into a book... That' as far as I have gotten. The granddaughter said yes...
I'm on book 152 for the year (I think) and might break 60,000 pages for the first year in my life. Pages are relative though to book format and genre, audience, etc, so hours read is a better measure. I haven't calculated my daily average in a while but I think its close to 5 hours. I haven't been watching much tv at all, even though there are many shows I'd like to watch, I'd rather read...
I'm glad you are taking some time to slow down and read some. It is important to take that time for yourself. My time for that might be out of proportion or a conflict of priority.
